Julia Means, LMSW

My name is Julia and I use she/her pronouns. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wake Forest University. I am licensed to practice in both New York and New Jersey. I use a combination of evidence-based practices and genuine connection to propel our work forward.

I am passionate about supporting you in your journey to fulfillment and helping you maintain emotional stability. My training has oriented me with a psychodynamic approach, meaning that I believe in the importance of exploring your early relationships and identifying ongoing patterns in your life. However, my experience has taught me that my approach needs to be individually tailored to your needs.

With that in mind, I incorporate several modalities (types of therapies) into my work. I will conduct a biopsychosocial assessment (BPSA) at the beginning of our work together to get a full picture of who you are. With the information I have gathered from the BPSA, I will employ a variety of methods including but not limited to: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive restructuring, and psychoeducation, all through a trauma-informed lens.

My style is warm and curious, with a flexible approach that can be molded to fit who you are. I am here to support you in whatever way you think fits you— especially if you need help figuring that out. I look forward to meeting you!
